In one sense everything 2nd Mile does is in an effort to engage our community, however, our ministries we label under the category of “Community Engagement” stand apart because these ministries are focused on, “going towards”—pursuing, serving, loving and supporting our community on their turf, in their spaces, and under their leadership.

Brentwood Neighbors Forum

On the last Tuesday of each month, we gather with neighbors for our community meeting. This new initiative is focused on listening to one another and then using our collective skills and voices to impact real change in our community. We’ve started by listing the assets that already exist in Brentwood and then are growing from there.

Nutritional Garden

The Nutritional Garden in our community is a learning space for kids in our neighborhood and an intentional green space to provide peace and tranquility. The children regularly go and learn about everything from gardening to the value of healthy eating.

New and seasoned volunteers are always welcome at the garden. Reach out to Andrew (andrew@2ndmilejax.com) for more information.

S-LINE REGENERATION PARK PROJECT

2nd Mile is excited to be working with the Duval Soil and Water towards the establishment of Regeneration Park along the S-Line Path in the Urban Core. Regeneration Park is seeking to environmentally restore a formerly polluted and currently vacant piece of land in our community. The final project will include a sensory garden, playground, accessible walking trails, solar lighting, and picnic tables to create a green space for all the community to enjoy.

It is a literal example of life springing up from where decay once stood. More information about the project can be found on the Duval Soil and Water website here.

Action Days

Our community Action Days allow us to work together with other neighborhood citizens to tackle these overgrown yards, the trash, and the blight. It is our desire that as we do so, piece by piece we will have a small part in restoring the pride and values in our community meanwhile communicating loudly—“You do matter. You are important. God hasn’t forgotten about you!”

Network of Community Partners

2nd Mile is honored to be a founding member of the NOCP, which is a collection of non-profit organizations, churches, businesses, and individuals who are committed to working together for the overall good and flourishing of the Brentwood community. The NOCP puts on events and works to use the power of collaboration to impact the neighborhood. We know that together we can do more than we could ever accomplish on our own.
